Three 5G Coverage Map
Three merged with Vodafone in June 2025 to make the UK’s biggest mobile operator. Three is still on individual brand, but their network is being slowly merged with Vodafones over the next few years.
This means Three customers get much better 4G coverage than previously, and on 5G they now cover 62% of the UK population.
Three’s 5G network does not currently offer 5G+, though they are forecast to have 5G+ rolled out to 99% of the UK population by 2030.
Average 5G download speeds on Three have been measured at around the 97Mbps mark.
O2 5G Coverage Map
O2 (also known as Virgin Media O2 since their merger) is the second largest mobile network.
They have been investing heavily in the rollout of their 5G Standalone network (known as 5G+) which now covers over 70% of the UK population which brings better speed and performance than the original 5G network.
Combined with their 5G network they now offer some kind of 5G to over 76% of the UK population.
Average 5G download speeds on O2 have been independently measured at around the 111Mbps mark.
Vodafone 5G Coverage Map
Vodafone merged with Three in 2025 to create VodafoneThree, though they still both operate as individual brands.
Vodafone was the first mobile network to launch a 5G Standalone network in 2023, they brand this as Vofafone Ultra (O2 and EE call their versions of this 5G+).
5G Ultra covers 71% of the population from Vodafone, and they aim to reach 99% of the population by 2030.
Independent testing puts average data speeds on Vodafone 5G at around the 130Mbps mark.
EE 5G Coverage Map
EE was the third mobile operator to launch 5G Standalone (which they brand as 5G+) but they have ambitious targets for its rollout.
Currently they cover over 66% of the UK population with 5G+ and aim for 99% coverage by 2030.
Their combined 5G and 5G+ network covers over 85% of the UK population.
Independent testing currently gives EE as having the fastest average download speeds for a UK mobile network at 240Mbps.

As you can see from the maps above. the majority of the country now has 5G available from at least one network, and in many places from a choice of networks.

When is 5G coming to my area?
If you want to know the answer to “When will 5G come to my area?” then it can be quite difficult to get a straight answer out of the networks as they quite often like to keep their expansion plans close to their chests!
However, we constantly monitor all areas of the UK mobile coverage for 5G coverage growth, we can let you know as soon as 5G becomes available in your area. What is the difference between 5G and 5G+ ?
5G as originally launched in the UK is still attached to the original 4G core network, so while it offers faster data speeds between your phone and the mobile mast, everything else is still on an older core network which limits it’s performance. This is known officially as 5G Non-Standalone or 5G NSA.
5G+ (more properly called 5G Standalone , or 5G SA) is where you have a 5G transmitter attached to a brand new 5G core. This allows for much better performance in terms of download speeds, latency and battery usage amongst others.
What is 5G Ultra?
5G Ultra is what Vodafone are calling their 5G Standalone service, while O2 and EE are calling theirs 5G+
So we are using the term 5G+ across our site when referring to 5G Standalone as this is what the majority of networks are calling it.
How do I get 5G+/5G Ultra?
To get 5G+ (or as Vodafone call it 5G Ultra) you need to have a mobile device that supports 5G Standalone and a SIM that is also compatible.
Most devices and SIMs produced since 2021 will be compatible, but always check with the mobile operator before commiting to a contract.
