Methodology
As the UK's leading independent mobile coverage checker, we receive many thousands of people a day coming to our site to check the mobile coverage in the areas that matter to them.
Whenever a mobile network suffers any network issues we will receive a huge influx of traffic to the individual landing pages for that network in a short space of time. This allows us to discover the timing and severity of these network issues almost the instance they occur, like a canary in the coalmine or a seismometer for an earthquake, we can detect problems before anybody else.
The following example shows the traffic spike caused by an outage on the Vodafone network on the 13th October 2025:

By monitoring our traffic levels in real time and benchmarking them against our historical baselines under normal circumstances our live network monitoring system can detect network issues as they occur and also determine when the issue has been resolved.
We grade incidents on severity based on the level of any spike:
- Less than 300% spike - No alarms raised
- 301% - 500% spike - Moderate alarm raised : Likely localised network issues
- 501% - 999% spike - Severe alarm raised : Likely regional network issues
- 1000%+ spike - Critical alarm raised : Likely nationwide network issues
Our live UK Mobile Network Status page lists the current status of all the major UK mobile networks along with a history of network outages we have detected.
